EU VAT invoice generator

An EU VAT invoice is an invoice that meets the VAT Directive's content rules, including the supplier's VAT number, the VAT rate and amount, and, when the customer pays the VAT, the words "Reverse charge" and the customer's VAT number.

Create an invoice for EU customers with both VAT IDs, VAT per rate, the total excluding VAT and the Article 196 reverse-charge note for B2B sales.

Examples

2 days of consulting at €750 with 21% VAT: total excluding VAT €1,500.00, VAT 21% €315.00, total €1,815.00.

B2B service to another member state

The same work for a VAT-registered customer in Germany under the reverse charge: VAT (reverse charge) €0.00, total €1,500.00, the customer's DE VAT ID on the invoice, and the note on Article 196.

Mixed rates

A line at 21% and a line at 9% give two VAT rows, VAT 21% and VAT 9%, each with its own amount.

How to use it

  1. Enter your business name, address and VAT ID, and the customer's name, address and VAT ID.
  2. Add each line with its description, quantity, unit price and VAT rate.
  3. Choose Yes for reverse charge when a business customer in another member state accounts for the VAT. If delivery is taxable, add it as a line item; the delivery field is added after VAT and is not taxed.
  4. Preview the invoice, then download the PDF or print it.

Questions

What must an invoice show under the reverse charge?
The words "Reverse charge" and the customer's VAT identification number, under Article 226 of the VAT Directive. This generator adds the note "Reverse charge: VAT to be accounted for by the customer (Article 196, Directive 2006/112/EC)" and warns you if the customer's VAT ID is empty.
Can I write the note in another language?
Member states accept the mention in their own languages, such as "Steuerschuldnerschaft des Leistungsempfängers" in German or "Autoliquidation" in French. Add the translation in the notes field if your customer needs it.
How do I check the customer's VAT ID?
Check its format with the VAT number checker, then confirm in the European Commission's VIES service that it is registered. Only VIES confirms registration.
Which VAT rate should each line use?
The rate of the country where the supply is taxed, for that product or service. The EU VAT calculator lists the standard and reduced rates of all 27 member states.
Is this an e-invoice?
No. It produces a PDF and a printable page, not structured XML. Where a country requires e-invoices in a format such as UBL or CII, issue them from software that supports it. You can read one with the e-invoice viewer.
Is my invoice data uploaded or saved?
No. The invoice is made entirely in your browser and nothing is uploaded. Invoice details are not kept as a draft, and shareable links leave out customer details, line items, logo and signature.
