Registration thresholds apply to resident businesses. Non-resident suppliers generally must register whatever their turnover when no one else in the country accounts for the VAT.

A 2026 amendment to the GCC VAT Agreement makes 5% a minimum rate and lets each state set its own. No state had announced a change by 30 October 2026.

Examples

Add 5% VAT

AED 1,000 net: VAT AED 50, total AED 1,050.

Extract VAT from a total

AED 2,100 including VAT: net = 2,100 ÷ 1.05 = AED 2,000, VAT AED 100. At 5%, the VAT is one twenty-first of a VAT-inclusive price.

Small amounts

AED 19.99 net: VAT 19.99 × 0.05 = 0.9995, which rounds to AED 1.00, total AED 20.99.

Registration threshold

A resident business with AED 400,000 of taxable supplies in the last 12 months is over the AED 375,000 mandatory threshold. Between AED 187,500 and AED 375,000 it may register voluntarily.

How to use it

  1. Keep the country set to United Arab Emirates, with the standard 5% rate.
  2. Enter the amount in dirhams.
  3. Choose Add VAT to work up from a net price, or Remove VAT to work back from a VAT-inclusive total.
  4. Read the net amount, VAT and total, then copy, download or print them.

Questions

How do I calculate 5% VAT from a total that includes VAT?
Divide the total by 1.05 to get the net amount, or by 21 to get the VAT. AED 1,050 including VAT is AED 1,000 net plus AED 50 VAT.
When does a UAE business have to register for VAT?
When its taxable supplies in the past 12 months exceed AED 375,000, or are expected to exceed it in the next 30 days. It may register voluntarily from AED 187,500. Non-resident suppliers generally register whatever their turnover when no one else accounts for the tax.
What must a UAE tax invoice show?
The words "Tax Invoice"; the supplier's name, address and TRN; the recipient's name, address and TRN if registered; a sequential number; the date; a description; quantity, unit price, rate and amount payable in AED; any discount; and the VAT amount in AED. The UAE tax invoice generator lays these out.
When can I issue a simplified tax invoice?
When the recipient is not VAT-registered, or is registered and the consideration is AED 10,000 or less. A tax invoice must be issued within 14 days of the supply.
When does e-invoicing start in the UAE?
Businesses with revenue of AED 50 million or more must implement it by 1 January 2027, other businesses by 1 July 2027, and government entities by 1 October 2027. From those dates a PDF made in a browser is not a valid e-invoice for businesses in scope.
Does this calculate UAE corporate tax?
No. Corporate tax is a separate tax on business profits (9% on taxable income above AED 375,000). This page covers VAT only.
Is my data sent anywhere?
No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
