- What does the invoice show for VAT?
- The title VAT Invoice, your VAT registration number, the VAT rate on each line, a VAT row for each rate (for example VAT at 20%), the total excluding VAT and the total. Check it against HMRC's invoice guidance before you send it.
- Can one invoice mix VAT rates?
- Yes. Each line has its own VAT rate, and the totals show a separate VAT row for each rate, so 20% and 5% items can sit on the same invoice.
- When should I use the reverse charge option?
- Only when the customer, not you, must account for the VAT under a reverse charge rule. The invoice then shows VAT (reverse charge) at £0.00 and the note "Reverse charge: customer to account for VAT to HMRC."
- Is delivery taxed?
- Not when it is entered in the delivery field, which is added after VAT. If delivery is part of a standard-rated supply, add it as a line item with its VAT rate instead.
- Can I invoice in euros or dollars?
- Yes. Choose the currency and the amounts are shown in it. The VAT figures still follow the rates on each line.
- Do I need to be VAT-registered to use it?
- Only VAT-registered businesses can charge VAT. If you are not registered, set the tax to No tax so the invoice charges none. Registration is required once taxable turnover passes £90,000 in a rolling 12 months.
- Is my invoice data uploaded or saved?
- No. The invoice is made entirely in your browser and nothing is uploaded. Invoice details are not kept as a draft, and shareable links leave out customer details, line items, logo and signature.
