Pay stub generator

A pay stub is the statement that comes with a US paycheck, showing gross pay, each tax and deduction withheld, net pay, and usually the year-to-date totals.

Make a US pay stub with earnings, federal and state withholding, Social Security, Medicare and year-to-date totals on Letter paper, then download a PDF.

Examples

Social Security on $4,000

6.2% of $4,000 = $248.00. In 2026 Social Security applies to the first $184,500 of wages, so it stops for the rest of the year once year-to-date wages pass that.

Medicare on $4,000

1.45% of $4,000 = $58.00, with no wage cap. The employer withholds a further 0.9% Additional Medicare Tax on wages over $200,000 in the year.

Net pay

Gross pay $4,000, less federal income tax, Social Security $248.00, Medicare $58.00, state tax and a 401(k) contribution, gives net pay. Enter each line as a deduction.

How to use it

  1. Enter the company's name and address, and the employee's name, ID and job title.
  2. Pick the pay period and pay date.
  3. Add each earning, such as regular pay and overtime, and each deduction, such as federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare, state tax and 401(k).
  4. Add year-to-date gross and net pay if you track them, then download the PDF on Letter paper or print it.

Questions

What should a pay stub show?
The employer and employee, the pay period and pay date, gross pay, each tax and deduction withheld, and net pay. Most pay stubs also show year-to-date totals. Check your state's rules on what a pay statement must include.
Does it calculate federal and state withholding?
No. Enter the amounts from your payroll. Withholding depends on the employee's Form W-4, the pay frequency and the state, which this generator does not model.
What are the Social Security and Medicare rates for 2026?
Social Security is 6.2% for the employee on wages up to $184,500 in 2026, and Medicare is 1.45% with no cap. The employer pays the same again. An extra 0.9% Additional Medicare Tax is withheld from the employee on wages over $200,000.
Is the employee's Social Security number printed?
No. The US pay stub has no tax ID field, so no SSN appears on it.
Can I use it for a contractor?
Independent contractors are usually paid against an invoice, not a pay stub, and no taxes are withheld. Use the US invoice generator for that.
Is the pay data uploaded anywhere?
No. The pay stub is made entirely in your browser and nothing is uploaded. Pay details are not kept as a draft.
