- What are the GST rates from 22 September 2025?
- The two main rates are 5% and 18%. Exempt and nil-rated supplies are 0%, and 40% applies to specified luxury and sin goods such as aerated drinks, mid-size and large cars, yachts, and private aircraft. Special rates remain for gold, silver and jewellery (3%), rough diamonds and precious stones (0.25%), and cut and polished diamonds (1.5%).
- What happened to the 12% and 28% slabs?
- They were removed for most items, which moved to 5% or 18%, and some to 40%. Tobacco and pan masala stay at the earlier rate of 28% plus compensation cess until the compensation-cess loans are repaid.
- How do I calculate GST from a GST-inclusive price?
- GST = inclusive price × rate ÷ (100 + rate). At 18%, GST on ₹11,800 is 11,800 × 18 ÷ 118 = ₹1,800, leaving a taxable value of ₹10,000. Choose Extract GST from total to do this automatically.
- Does this calculate CGST, SGST, and IGST separately?
- Yes. Intrastate transactions split the tax into equal CGST and SGST, each half the rate, while interstate transactions show a single IGST amount at the full rate.
- When should I use a custom rate?
- When the rate you need is not a preset, such as 1.5% for cut and polished diamonds, or when you are recalculating an older invoice issued before 22 September 2025 at 12% or 28%.
- Should I fill in compensation cess?
- Leave it at 0 unless the goods still attract compensation cess, such as tobacco products during the transition. For most supplies after 22 September 2025 there is no compensation cess.
- Which rate applies to my product or service?
- It depends on the HSN code for goods or the SAC code for services, as notified by the government. Check the notified rate schedule or ask a tax professional; the calculator applies the rate you choose.
- Is my data sent anywhere?
- No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
